The 1st Bangladesh-Dubai Joint PPP Platform meeting was held on 01 September 2019 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Delegation of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was led by Mr. Muhammad Alkama Siddiqui(Secretary), CEO, PPP Authority, Prime Minister’s Office of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The Delegation of Dubai was led by H.E Saed Mohamed Al Mheiri, the Ambassador, UAE, Bangladesh. The meeting was held in friendly and conducive atmosphere with the spirit of cooperation. Both the parties were pleased to initiate this meeting with enthusiasm based on the MoU signed between the parties on 17th February 2019.
The Platform meeting was inaugurated by Mr. Md. Nojibur Rahman, Principal Secretary to the Honorable Prime Minister, Prime Minister’s Office who graced the program as the chief guest. Mr. Muhammad Alkama Siddiqui, the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) and Secretary of the Government, presided over the meeting.
Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Co-ordinator of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), The Prime Minister’s Office, UAE ambassador H.E. Saed Mohammad Al Mheiri, DP World Vice President Omar Al Muhairi, were also present as special guests.
The Chief guest put emphasis on the timely selection of projects and devising investment plan for these. He advised and expected that the investment plan would get shape within the coming month.
Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Coordinator of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Prime Minister’s Office said DP World’s interest has created a new chapter of partnership between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He highlighted the government’s investment plan of at least 30% through PPP and noted that the infrastructure projects could be implemented through PPP. He hoped the projects would be implemented as soon as possible with UAE investment.
The CEO of DP World, Mr. Soomar made a statement that DP World would like to make sure that the partnership between Bangladesh and Dubai would be holistic rather than being only based on port and logistic infrastructure. He further added, highlighting their interests on certain sectors, namely in, rail, road, water, airways, port, dry dock solution, education and logistic load distribution as Dhaka is now well connected to ports.
In view of the platform meeting PPPA conducted several preparatory meetings for identifying potential projects to be presented to DP World. A number of 20 projects of 7 ministries/divisions were presented in the meeting.
