International Investors Forum Bangladesh 2014 for promoting investment climate in Bangladesh

With the patronage of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Board of Investment under the Prime Minister’s Office organized the International Investors Forum Bangladesh on 17 September 2014. The forum was a platform for regional and domestic investors to exchange ideas with a view to increasing intra-regional investment flows in South and East Asia, as well as attract new investments in key sectors. The event was organised in partnership with the PPP Office and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority to highlight the latest improvements in Bangladesh’s enabling business climate and showcase investment opportunities in PPP, power, economic zone, agriculture, light engineering etc.
Mr. Syed Afsor H. Uddin, Chief Executive Officer of the PPP Office provided a key note presentation at this day-long event which witnessed participation of over 300 international and local investors. In his presentation titled “PPP Investment Opportunities in Bangladesh”, Mr. Uddin provided an overview of the achievements of the PPP program and highlighted upcoming PPP investment opportunities in Bangladesh. The presentation highlighted how the PPP Office had accelerated the growth of the PPP program through the implementation of targeted supporting measures, it provided an overview of the process for delivering PPP projects in Bangladesh benchmarked against other countries to demonstrate a timeline with international standards and demonstrated how the PPP Office is facilitating the establishment of an enabling PPP environment in Bangladesh through the preparation and development of projects prior to procurement and the establishment of a transparent and competitive framework for engaging with investors.
After the presentation, Mr. Uddin also moderated the business session on Investing in Economic Zones and Infrastructure which included key government policy makers and prominent private sector players as panel members including Mr. Mainuddin Monem, DMD, Abdul Monem Ltd., Mr. Salahuddin Kashen Khan, MD, AK Khan Company, Mr. J. Zutt, Country Director, the World Bank and Mr. Fakhrul Islam, Executive Chairman, BEZA. The key note paper for this session was delivered by Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Senior Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office. The Secretary of Power Division, Mr. Monwer Islam also highlighted the progress and opportunity in power sector infrastructure in this session.
